Here are a few photos from a trip to Mexico in September 2004. Whilst staying in Cancún for two weeks we visited Playa Del Carmen on several occasions, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá. We arrive in Cancún just a few days after Hurricane Ivan had pummelled the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Grenada, but fortunately for us it didn't hit the Yucatán Peninsula and made an unexpected northerly turn instead. Upon out arrival at the hotel, we were informed that the sea had flooded most of the ground floor rooms and washed away part of the beach due to Hurricane Ivan's nearby presence in the Gulf of Mexico.
One afternoon a rather amusing incident took place whilst eating lunch at a restaurant on Cozumel. The guy I was with decided he was going to smear a very attractive-looking green sauce all over his food, which turned out to be a very pungent Habanero chilli sauce, much to the amusement of the staff! Needless to say, we ended up swapping meals that afternoon and I had the beef instead.
