Well, the 2020 chilli growing season has finally come to a close, a little earlier than last season because most of the indoor plants were moved into the glasshouse several weeks ago whilst we were having new windows fitted, and rather than bring them back indoors I just left them out in the glasshouse. Some of the chillies had ripened, some were in the process of ripening, but many were still green. However, I have nothing against green chillies so this isn't an issue for me.

I've kept one of the
Peruvian White Habanero plants and I'll be over-wintering it and then re-potting it into some fresh compost next spring. This variety has done very well for me this season and the chillies taste great and pack a real punch, so I decided to keep the smaller of the two plants and grow it as a house plant, of sorts. I've also saved plenty of seeds from it, along with seeds for both
Aji Largo and
Inca Red Drop.

I had intended to take down the walk-in plastic greenhouse and store it away before winter arrives. However, I've now decided against this and will be leaving it up instead. It has become well established and is anchored down real good, so it should be just fine. If not then so be it! I'm not all that impressed with it anyway to be honest. I've given the inside a good wash (plastic cover, poles and floor) and will do the same again next spring before the plants are moved in.

I'm really impressed with the haul of chillies I've had this year and I now have two large freezer draws full of them which will keep me going for many months. I recently made a couple of batches of my Habanero hot sauce so I could use up the remainder of last year's haul. Both batches contain an assortment of
Capsicum chinense varieties, and one batch also contains some of this year's haul because I ran out of the ones I grew last year. The only chillies I have left now from last year are
Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and
Trinidad 7-Pot, and these will be used up over the next few months.

All of the growing equipment has now had a good wash and my next job is to sterilise everything using a strong bleach solution before drying it and storing it away until next year. Next year, I intend to sow the chilli seeds a little earlier than normal, probably around mid-January, so no doubt I'll see you then. Anyway, adios amigos and amigas, and remember — keep it hot and keep it spicy! 👿
