Chilli Plant Update - 29th May 2019
All of the chilli plants were re-potted into their final pots on Monday evening, a task which took the best part of three hours to complete. It's always at this stage of the season when I question myself on why I bother to grow so many plants. Considering how I do most of my growing indoors I can realistically only house about 16 plants, yet at the beginning of each new season it always seems a good idea to squeeze in a few more varieties, just because I can. If it's stupidity you're looking for then they don't come any more stupid than me! The additional varieties will eventually end up growing in a bedroom window so that I can space the rest out, otherwise the Red Mayan Habanero plants won't be able to go into their 12-litre pots next month, and we can't have that.
I now have a rough idea as to where each plant will spend the season, but there's still some more juggling around to do just yet before it's actually finalised. Here are some photos I took yesterday evening showing all the individual varieties.
I made a batch of Habanero hot sauce on the 24th May and used up the remainder of last year's Chocolate Habanero chillies. A couple of good-sized Dorset Naga chillies were also added for good measure. I tend to leave each batch for a minimum of four weeks before opening the first bottle because this allows for all the flavours to develop. In the meantime, I still have the previous batch to get through, which was made using Yellow Jelly Bean Habanero chillies.
Hopefully, we'll have another heatwave like we did last year because that made for some very happy chilli plants.
