The weather has been very chilli plant friendly over the past few days and on Saturday evening all of the plants were re-potted into their second pots. Not all were in dire need of new shoes, but I decided to get them all done out of the way. The night time temperature in the porch has been sitting between 68–71F, which means that the oil heater has also had a well deserved sabbatical.

Chilli Plants in the Porch - 20th April 2019 |
I use a mixture of two types of compost with a couple of extra additions, and more often than not one type contains sciarid flies, and so I have no choice but to sterilise it in the oven to prevent any future infestations. These flies are not much of a problem during the early stages of the season, but midway through or towards the end they can become an annoying pest. Not to mention that when growing chilli plants indoors it can be a tad unpleasant having small black flies taking liberties around the house.

This year, I'm growing four new varieties, which are Cap 1445, Mako Akokosrade, Habanero Numero Diez and Aji Guaguao. It will be fun to see how all the new ones turn out. Some people claim that Mako Akokosrade is a very tasty variety.

Here are some photos that were taken yesterday evening showing all the individual varieties. I didn't have chance on Saturday because by the time I'd finished re-potting and cleaning up it was getting very late.

On the 14th April I made the second batch of curried apple and chilli chutney, and this time I added a lot more chillies, which included a good amount of
Capsicum chinense varieties for an extra kick! The recipe is currently in the process of being fine tuned. I sent a jar of it to the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and we all know how that one turned out...
